Appropriation Made for "Gray's Pasture Tract." Maintenance for Two Years Also Provided.
The forty-acre tract, long desired as an addition to the present Ramsey State Park will be purchased by the state, if the appropriation made by the Legislature last Tuesday is approved by Governor Christianson.
Dr. F. H. Aldrich, the Redwood County representative in the House wired J. R. Keefe, head of the Ramsey Park Committee that such appropriation had been made, and that the usual appropriation of $3500 for park maintenance for the next two years had also been made. The passage of these appropriation bills are to be credited to the Park Committee and Representatives Aldrich and Kramer. H. M. Hitchcock, an honorary member of the Park Board has also been extremely active on the behalf of this bill working to advantage in this respect because of his present residence in Minneapolis.
The forty acre tract has been to all appearances a part of Ramsey Park for the past several years. W. H. Gold purchasing it some time ago and holding it until such time as the State saw fit to purchase it. Had it not been taken over at the time Mr. Gold bought it, the trees would in all probability have been cut and the property ruined so far as its scenic beauty is concerned. Drives have been laid in it and it is a part of the main park in appearances.
The members of the Park Committee are J. R. Keefe, W. H. Gold, H. A. Baldwin, H. M. Aune, G. L. Grapp and Mr. Hitchcock.
