Oklahoma Lawyer and Banker Approved as Successor to Frederick G. Cox.
Washington, Feb. 17-(AP)-President Coolidge's nomination of Ezra Brainerd, Jr., of Muskogee, Okl., to be a member of the Interstate Commerce commission, was confirmed late today by the Senate. The nomination had been approved earlier in the day by the interstate commerce committee and was taken up out of order on motion of Chairman Watson.
Brainerd succeeds Frederick I. Cox of New Jersey.
Cyrus E. Wood of Pennsylvania originally was appointed by the President for the post, but his nomination was rejected by the Senate largely on the ground that a Pennsylvania man should not be appointed while the Lake cargo controversy involving that state and others was pending.
Brainerd, who is a Republican, was recommended to President Coolidge by Senator Pine, Republican, of Oklahoma, and indorsed by Senator Harreld, the other Republican senator from that state. He is an attorney, and vice-president of a bank.
