The suggestion has been made that one of the best investments which could be made by the banks of the state would be to finance a model farm in each county of Arkansas. If a tract of 10 or 20 acres located on some good highway near the city or county seat could be financed to the extent of making it a model in every respect, it would be the greatest incentive to the other farmers of the county. It has been demonstrated that intensively farmed a small tract of good land can be made to yield a good living for a family. If the owner had sufficient funds to provide all modern conveniences in the home, the barns, and in the fields, so that he would not be pressed for funds for actual living expenses, it would be possible for him to make a successful demonstration in dairying, market gardening, small fruits, poultry and other remunerative branches of farming. It need not be a donation on the part of the bank, but only a loan.
