Negro Congressman Hails Mitchell's Attack On Georgians

ACP Member Congress Has Speech Put Into Congressional Record

speech of Congressman Erwin Mitchell, of Dalton, delivered at Rome, July 1960, in which he denounced officials of the State of Georgia, United States Senators and the other Congressmen from Georgia, put into the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD by Negro Congressman Robert C. Nix, of the Fourth Congressional District of the State of Pennsylvania. Mitchell speech was published on A-4080 and A-4081, the CONGRESSIONAL RECORD - Appendix, June 12, 1960. It is prefaced with a long laudatory introduction by Nix,

joined with Mitchell in denouncing officials of the State and those serving from Georgia in the Senate and in House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States.

Member of NAACP

Nix is a member of the NAACP. That is set out by him in his biographical sketch as published on Page 137, of Congressional Directory, 86th Congress 2nd Session, January 1960. Nix was born at Orangeburg, South Carolina, August 9, 1905. His home is in the city of Philadelphia.

One of the featured speakers at the state-wide gathering of HOPE, Incorporated, held at the Dinkler-Plaza Hotel, Atlanta, Saturday, May 14, 1960, was Mitchell. The other "noted" Speaker on that occasion was "Rastus McGill, publisher of THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. HOPE is a professional race mixing organization working for integrated schools in Georgia and integration in other walks of life in this State.
