STEAM FRIGATES.—It is within the knowledge of our readers, that Congress, at their last Session, in the act to authorize the increase of the Navy of the U. States, have embraced a provision for procuring all the imperishable materials for three Steam Frigates, in addition to the one built at New York, which was nearly ready for service when the war with Great Britain so unexpectedly terminated. The government has therefore recognized this description of vessels as a proper component part of our maritime defence. Considering that they are but little understood in comparison with their importance, we to-day republish an account of the Steam Frigate at New York, which first appeared in the National Advocate in February last; upon which probably was predicated the provision in the act of Congress above referred to. The complete originality of this species of force entitles it peculiarly to the favor of all Americans.
