Full Text

Reform Needed.—The Legislature about to convene in Sacramento, being Democratic and pledged to reform, will please make note of the fact that hogs—dirty black hogs—are running at large in the town of Weaverville, county of Trinity, and State of California, and that the said hogs break through and destroy our fence and thereby cause us much annoyance and make us swear—a thing which we are decidedly averse to doing; whereupon we ask said Honorable body to pass a law preventing hogs from running at large in our public streets; and furthermore that the owners of cows possessed of intelligence which makes them capable of opening gates, no matter how securely fastened, be required to keep said cows at home. We can think of nothing more annoying than to find six or eight hogs and one or more cows in a garden, day after day, and as the Weaverville quadrupeds of these varieties won't be kept out, their owners should keep them off the public streets. It is probable that, unless some measures are taken to prevent their breaking into peoples' yards, some of them will be found to have died from the epizootic, lead poison or some other speedy destroyer.
