Earthquake.—On the 16th ult. two severe shocks of an earthquake were experienced in South-Carolina, Virginia and Columbia. At Alexandria the first shock was between 2 and 3 o'clock in the morning and was so violent as to move the doors upon their hinges, shake the furniture in the houses, and stop the clocks; the second shock was at 8 o'clock, and continued about 30 seconds. The effects were similar at Norfolk, (Vir.) and Charleston, S. C. This Earthquake was felt also at Raleigh N. C. and Philadelphia.
