DELUGED BY A BURSTING DAM.

At a point midway between the Rittenhouse Manufacturing Company's Woolen Mill and Reid & Barry's Print Works, on the Dundee Water-power and Land Company's Canal at Passaic, N. J., it was discovered before daybreak yesterday morning that a break had taken place in the canal. The water poured into the ground floor of Reid & Barry's works extinguishing the fires and the gas and creating consternation and alarm among the workmen, who were obliged to wade waist deep in water before they could reach dry land. The leak was first noticed on Thursday afternoon, and had the water been drawn off then a serious complication of disasters might have been averted. Reid & Barry's loss will amount to between $30,000 and $50,000; the woolen mill is damaged to the amount of $20,000; hundreds of workmen are thrown out of employment and the city's supply of water is cut off.
