She rests in peace.

Inscribed to a friend on a recent bereavement.

BY C. P. ILSLEY, ESQ.

She rests in peace! Forevermore
Released from wasting care and strife
All sickness and all sorrow o'er,
Oh, who would call her back to life!

She rests in peace! Friend, in thy grief
Murmur thou not at Heaven's decree
She rests in peace! Here find relief
From the dark cloud that shadows thee.

She rests in peace: The angel, Death,
Who sealed her lip, and closed her eye,
But hastened on the dying breath
That she might sooner soar on high.

She rests in peace! Not in the tomb
To whose dark bounds her clay was given:
She ne'er was subject to its gloom,
But left her home for one in heaven!

She rests in peace: A glorious rest,
In that pure world of endless bliss-
There welcomed as an angel guest,
Who, who would wish her back to this!
