Last week the bark C. O. Whitemore was piloted from Royal Roads to this place by pilot Christensen, of the Victoria pilots. We learn the modest (?) charge of $120 was made, and that said sum was paid for the service. It is thought that the vessel would have been exacted in part payment for pilotage if the pilot had got hold of her at Cape Flattery. Under the law which our late menagerie repealed, this vessel would have been brought up by one of our own pilots for $70. The English pilot who brought her in boasted of the charge he had enforced, and told one of our pilots that they had a "dead sure thing" on a rich harvest for the next two years and they intend to make hay during such favorable sunshine "for all they were worth." Between the Victoria pilots and the Victoria tug boats, an interesting amount of coin will be diverted from Puget Sound to British Columbia before the work of our legislative blunders can be undone. We have learned of four different vessels being towed up the Straits already by English tug boats, where the Puget Mill Co's steamer Goliah would in each case have done the towing had the pilot law been in force. We call public attention to these facts that people may know that the Argus was not making mere wild assertions in its predictions heretofore. The result is turning out exactly as we said it would, and, although it makes no direct pecuniary difference to us, we propose to demonstrate to the hardy voters on the Sound who it is that is forcing money away from their midst to the pockets of our B. C. neighbors.
