ESSINEUR, April 14.

On the night of the 11th, two English ships of the line, one of them carrying a rear admiral's flag, & a cutter brig, coming from the north sea, passed the Sound under the Swedish coast, and came to anchor near the island of Hveen. The cannon of the fortress announced their arrival, and our flotilla was immediately ranged in order of battle. At the moment of their passage, the batteries of Helsingburg fired 12 or 14 shots, but they did not appear to affect the enemy.

A flag of truce was sent to us to-day, just as we were about to dispatch one from our side. It is true, as it is pretended, that several other ships of war wish to pass the Sound, they will not be able to do so, whilst the south wind prevails.

The English have great hopes of remaining at peace with Sweden. It is said that admiral Saumarez has arrived before Gottenburg, with eight ships of the line, two frigates and some transports. English merchantmen depart freely from the Swedish ports.
