MOVEMENTS ALONG THE BALTIMORE AND OHIO RAILROAD.

For several days past immense trains of cars bearing material for the construction of a railroad have been moving eastward from this and other points. The railroad is doubtless being built east of Hancock and in the direction of Martinsburg as rapidly as possible. It is understood that Gen. Shields, of Mexico and California fame, is to take command on the upper Potomac now that the brave Lander is no more. General Schenck is already at Paw Paw.

Yesterday we were supplied with every variety of weather ever experienced in this country. Last night was particularly nasty, slushy and rainy. Except where a gaslight threw out a streak of light it was dark enough to work at with a pick-axe and spade.
