viz. David Middleton of this city, for stealing a watch, at Mr. Painter's house; grand larceny;--one year's imprisonment in the Penitentiary.-- William Cochran, Henrico county; petit larceny, by stealing an odd unmatched pair of Shoes, value two dollars: nine months of imprisonment--Overton Burton a taylor of Hanover county, for stealing a watch; grand larceny; twelve months of imprisonment. This is one of the notable consequences of gaming. Burton, who is a taylor, had been playing at cards one evening, by which he lost his watch. In the morning he picked her up, and attempted to get off. His defence was that he had been in liquor, over night, and forgot his having lost her.-- Anderson Phillips of Chesterfield county, for horse stealing, three years of ditto.-- John Whitis of this city, for stealing one dollar from a store in Richmond; petit larceny; one year of ditto:--Jack Harris, a free black man of this city, convicted upon three several indictments, for grand and petit larceny: six years. One sixth part of each term of confinement is to be passed in a solitary cell. It came out upon the trial of the black man, that he acted under the direction of one Peter Berry, a late store-keeper on the canal; and who decamped from Richmond some weeks ago, without either drums beating, or colours flying.
