No man worthy of the notice of President
should be willing to hold it if
counted in or placed there by fraud.
PRESIDENT GRANT.
President Grant made use of the
above language about the time that
both parties were sending their com-
missioners South to watch the count-
ing of the votes in South Carolina.
Florida and Louisiana. The country
generally applauded the saying, and
thought that it meant that no man
would be allowed to go into the presi-
dential office unless he possessed a
clear title thereto. How vastly mis-
taken everybody was, the recent de-
csion of the republican majority of
the high commission, declaring Hayes
the President, fully attests.
