TAX ON FRUIT FOR ADS TOLD

C-C Secretaries to Air Valley Proposal.

S. M. Patterson, manager of the Mission chamber of commerce, will represent the Valley Secretaries association in advocating to units of the South Texas Citrus Growers league that they seek a law enforcing a certain sum to be collected on each box of Valley fruit to be used in a national advertising campaign.

Patterson has been invited by President C. S. Lee of the McAllen unit of the league to address citrus growers here the night of July 27. The McAllen unit adjourned its meeting scheduled for tomorrow night so members may attend the Valley-wide Centennial emergency rally in Harlingen.

Valley chambers of commerce fear a large crop of citrus means a low market, and believe growers should seek new outlets and increased consumption of the superior Valley fruit through a national advertising campaign. Florida and California, with inferior fruit, have much better sales than the Valley because they advertise, fruit men say.
