Citizen of Hardeman.
The White river Journal of the 10th says
that on or about the 2d inst. a man was
hung by the neck to the limb of a tree.
near Brownsville, in that county. His feet
nearly touched the ground, and his body
was in such a position as not to indicate
whether he had been foully dealt with, or
came to death by his own act. He was a
man apparently about thirty years of age,
light complexion and medium size. He
answers the description of a man, supposed
to be crazy, who has been seen near Lonoke.
The following letter was found upon his
person.
It is supposed to have been
addressed to the deceased:
MEMPHIS, October 4, 1869
G. A. SANGSTER: Your letter came to
hand by Mr. Powell, and twenty dollars
received for the benefit of your family.
I received of him the amount. Your
family is in the country and well. I wish
you could send the same thing, if not more,
as the winter is coming on, and they must
be clothed with something to keep them
warm. I have not heard of the property
yet. What about it? Write soon
Respectfully,
G. O. SANGSTER.
I kissed the babies for their father.
