WORLD'S DEEPEST
WELL IS PLANNED

Standard Oil Co. of California is about to begin drilling what may prove to be the world's deepest oil well, scheduled to go down at least 15,000 feet in the Midway-Sunset field near Taft.

Deepest well in the world at this time is Continental Oil Co.'s producer in a field near Wasco, Calif. Drilled to 15,004, it is now producing from 12,000 feet.

Location picked for the Standard of California deep test is less than three-quarters of a mile from the site of the famous Lakeview gusher, which came in with a roar in March, 1910, and sprayed oil for a mile. Though depth of the well was only 2,260 feet, at one time its daily output reached 68,000 barrels.
