Full Text
A Correspondent remarks, that no doubt can possibly exist that there are persons in this country, who would prefer for the people of the United States any form of government but that which the people have chosen. This fact is proved by their numberless denunciations of the Constitution of the United States and its administration: and the decided preference these persons give to the mere elections of several foreign governments. That some Strangers among us should do this, is not to be wondered at. That persons under foreign influence should represent the administration of this country in an unfavorable point of light, because that administration inflexibly adheres to the real interests of the United States, as an independent nation, is to be expected.
Hence we find, and no surprise can be excited thereby, that those who have invariably exerted themselves to involve us in foreign and domestic war, finding their nefarious attempts frustrated, have represented this government as disaffected to France—thereby feeding their malice with the hopes of a future rupture between the two countries.
