Massachusetts Election.

'The House shall be federal."

Boston Resolutions.
Finding the voice of popular opinion setting against them, that a republican Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Senate were chosen the chiefs of the federal faction in conclave at Boston, resolved the House of Representatives should be federal—and we are informed by the Eastern Argus, what means their satellites adopted to render it so.

A meeting was held in Portland the 6th inst. but no choice being made, the meeting was adjourned to the 13th. The federal selectmen resolved not to admit any names on the list after the adjournment, and having failed in one attempt to outvote the republicans as the list stood, they set themselves at work to revise and amend it in such manner as should answer their purpose. Accordingly the names of a large number of republicans were struck off, and at the second meeting, many who had been admitted to vote at the first, were refused—and by such manoeuvring, 8 republicans were deprived of the right of suffrage.

On the federal side, those who had just worn out of jail, poor who were aided by the town, foreigners who had been naturalized but a few months, negro servants, temporary residents in the town, negroes who run from the British colonies to this country for protection, and poor as death and never naturalized, were admitted to the right of suffrage—and yet after all this fraud, federalism obtained only a plurality of 44 votes.

This we suppose is the manner in which the House of Representatives is to be federalized.

Notwithstanding the resolves, the frauds and extraordinary exertions of the federalists of Massachusetts, there is good ground for hope that the House of Representatives will be Republican.

Salem still maintains its integrity, and has chosen thirteen republican representatives and it is believed, saved the state from the anarchy and misrule of federalism.
