Who Forged Checks on William West, Here,
Failed to Appear in Court and
Cost His Father the Sum
of $500.
Ed. S. Crowl, who was wanted here last fall on a charge of having forged two checks on William West, the marble dealer on South Main street, and for the appropriation of West's horse and buggy, failed to appear in court at Piqua. Young Crowl was arrested after he made scarce his presence here, by the authorities of Piqua where he forged a check for $35 on Flatz & Eby, marble dealers. He was bound over to the grand jury, and went to jail, but his father later came to his rescue, and put up the bond. Yesterday Crowl failed to appear when his case was called and the father was forced to forfeit the bail. The parents of the young man reside at Bellefontaine. - Lima Gazette.
Crowl was engaged in canvassing for the Bellefontaine Index, until a week or ten days ago.
We would think it pretty risky to put such a man out to solicit business.
