High School Courses to Help Students Choose Their Lifework
Supervisor M. P. Moe Says Excellent Results Have Already Been Shown Where Program Has Been Applied; Big Sandy Is Cited.
Vocational courses, designed to give high school students aid in the selection of their occupations, will be stressed in Montana high schools during the coming year, according to M. P. Moe, state high school supervisor. The subject will be particularly stressed in freshman classes, he said.
"Throughout his high school and college work, the student will accomplish far more if he has his mind made up as to his vocation," Moe said. "It is the student who has no definite goal to strive for who does poor work in his studies."
In Big Sandy high school where the supervisor taught, excellent results were obtained, he said.
Half the high schools in the state will offer a complete course in vocational education, according to Moe. About one-fourth of them will conduct partial courses. Superintendents and school principals throughout the state he said, have voiced their approval of the study, believing it will be of great benefit.
A review of the commercial departments of Montana high schools will be started soon by the supervisor to determine standards and qualifications set up in the various schools with a view of regulating them.
