Full Text
The Secretary of War has announced the termination of this interminable war. The Indian force is not over one hundred warriors. To guard against their depredations a small force is necessary; consequently the army there will be reduced, the sending of further supplies stopped, the naval force withdrawn, &c.
We question very much, however, whether we do not hear of further massacres. But a small force will do as much now as a large one, and, we think, the Floridians have fattened long enough on this war. At least so think the Grand Jury, Madison county, of this Territory, who, in their presentment, say:
Presentment of the Grand Jury, of Madison county, Florida.
We are aware that militia have been tried in this war and proved unsuccessful, that frauds to a large amount have been committed; that immense sums of money have been expended and squandered by sycophants and corrupt agents, for whose acts we hold the Government responsible.
We assert that it is exclusively a war of the United States, instigated and brought upon us by the blundering and careless acts of the heads of Departments at Washington city.

Event Details
The Secretary of War announced the end of the interminable war in Florida, with the Indian force reduced to not over one hundred warriors, necessitating only a small force to guard against depredations, leading to army reduction, halted supplies, and naval withdrawal. Doubts expressed about avoiding further massacres, noting a small force suffices now and Floridians have profited too long from the war. The Grand Jury of Madison county, Florida, in their presentment, highlighted unsuccessful militia trials, large-scale frauds, immense expenditures squandered by sycophants and corrupt agents, holding the Government responsible, and asserted the war as exclusively U.S.-instigated by blundering acts of Washington department heads.
