MONTANA'S CHIEF OFFICIAL IS FORMALLY INSTALLED IN EXECUTIVE'S CHAIR.

TAKES OATH OF OFFICE

New State Officers Are Sworn in by Chief Justice Brantley of the Supreme Court—Brilliant Inaugural Ball at Helena Auditorium Is Feature of the Day's Events.

Helena, Jan. 4.—All of the state officers were sworn in today, the first to take the oath being Associate Justice Holloway.

Later Chief Justice Brantly administered the oath to Governor Norris in the governor's reception room in the presence of a number of people. Following the taking of the oath there was an informal reception by the governor at which he received a large number of people. Later all of the other state officers were inducted into office.

Take the Oath.

The state officials who took the formal oath of office today are as follows:

Edwin L. Norris, governor; William R. Allen, lieutenant governor; W. R. Holloway, associate justice of the supreme court; A. N. Yoder, secretary of state; A. J. Galen, attorney general; E. E. Esselstyn, state treasurer; Harry R. Cunningham, state auditor; W. E. Harmon, superintendent of public instruction; E. A. Morley, B. F. Stanton and Dan Boyle, railway commissioners.

Inaugural Ball.

This was the coldest night Helena has experienced this year and one of the coldest for years, but notwithstanding that, there was a great crush at the auditorium, where the reception and the inaugural ball were given in honor of Governor Norris and the other state officers. The affair was the most brilliant ever given in Helena, not only because of the large number present, but also because of the elaborate decorations and the many striking and beautiful costumes worn by the women.

Receiving Party.

The receiving party consisted of Governor and Mrs. Edwin L. Norris, Former Governor and Mrs. J. K. Toole, Speaker of the House W. W. McDowell and wife, Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. W. R. Allen, Chief Justice and Mrs. Brantly, Justice and Mrs. H. C. Smith, Justice and Mrs. W. T. Holloway, Judge and Mrs. W. H. Hunt and Colonel and Mrs. W. A. Mann. Not only were the members of the legislature in evidence, but men and women prominent in every walk of life in all parts of the state attended.
