SENIOR CLASS OF THE CENTRAL SCHOOL IS SMALLER THAN USUAL

COMMENCEMENT ON JUNE 13

Extravaganza Written by Swem and Dunlap to Be Presented by the Pupils—Class Day Exercises.

The St. Paul Central high school will graduate eighty-five pupils this month. Last year the graduates numbered 115, just thirty more than this year. Many reasons are given to account for this falling off in the number of graduates. The class of 1901 was a small entering class. Then, an unusually large number finished in mid-winter, many of them having made up the half year after entering with the fall class. The closing exercises of the class will begin June 12, when class day will be observed. The observance of this class day will be something of a departure from the usual manner of celebration. In the evening, at the high school assembly hall, an extravaganza entitled "Minnesota's Talisman," written by Thomas Swem and Maurice Dunlap, of the graduating class, will be given.

There will be original music, libretto and dances and the extravaganza will introduce all the time-honored class day observances, presenting the knife, reading the class histories and the addresses of the class officers. Miss Helen Austin will direct the play, in which each of the eighty-five pupils will have a part.

The commencement exercises will be held June 13 at the Grand, and the following honor pupils will present the programme:

Salutatory, Maurice Dunlap; "Patriot-Traitor," Sylvan Hess; "Scandinavia," Rose Johnson; "Penalties of Culture," Edward Stringer; "A Twentieth Century Educator," Edna Brack; "Color Influences," Amelia Olmstead; "Talents of Care," Katherine Stoughton; "Instinct in Dumb Animals," May Irwin; "Literature in Its Special Aspects," Katherine Tschida; valedictory, Walter Moore.

On the evening of June 14 the alumni will give a reception and dancing party for the graduates in the assembly hall of the high school. The annual meeting will precede the social function.
