EL DIA DE SAN JUAN.
Our Mexican Citizens Celebrate Last Thursday.

Thursday, the 24th inst. being St. Johns Day, it was observed by the Mexican people here with a characteristic celebration. The exercises began on the evening before with a special vespers service in the Catholic church, Rev. Father Badilla officiating. Just before the services, the St. Johns brass band discoursed fine music in front of the church.

Immediately after the people had been dismissed, a grand display of fireworks was had at the plaza, on River street.

On the morning of the 24th, the festivities of the day were ushered in by the playing of the St. Johns brass band, who favored the citizens with patriotic airs and choice selections.

A high mass was celebrated at 8 o'clock at the Catholic church, Rev. Badilla officiating.

In the afternoon the customary sports were indulged in on River street, where the various riders displayed their horsemanship to the admiration of the spectators, among whom was more than a sprinkling of the fair sex.

A grand ball was held in the evening which was pretty generally attended, and thus ended our annual fiesta.
