The question in Pennsylvania appears to be not whether Old Tip will carry the State, but what will be his majority. Some estimate it as high as 20,000. A letter from a distinguished whig to the Albany Evening Journal says, that Alleghany county alone will give Harrison 2,500 majority. She gave him 543 in 1836. If the rest of the state stands firm to its vote in 1836, that county alone will give Pennsylvania to the whigs. But, adds the letter, in the whole of the western portion of the state of which Pittsburg is the commercial centre; the whig gain—will be proportionate. Washington county, for instance; gave Harrison 350 majority in 1836. She will give him 1,000 in 1840.
A letter in the Richmond Whig of the 14th March expresses similar opinions; The people, says this epistle, the farmers and mechanics of this great state are thoroughly aroused: Public spirited men; republican whigs, even the whole state, are calling the whigs together and addressing them. Often did I see on the green, surrounding these large Pennsylvania barns; vast multitudes; the bone and sinew of the country whilst from the barns the speakers were addressing them. Throughout the state the universal cry is, "HARRISON AND REFORM."
N. O. Bee:
The Harrison Flag.—This flag now waves at the head of all the Conservative and Whig papers in the Union, from the National Intelligencer down. We hardly expected such unanimity.—N. O. Pic.
