Full Text

National Jubilee.—William Duane, a busy, meddling foreigner, has issued his proclamation, recommending a Great national Festival to be held throughout the United States on Saturday, the 12th day of May, 1804, to celebrate the acquisition of Louisiana to this country. We regret that we are not able to present the proclamation to our readers as a singular curiosity. The real object of this Jubilee is to sing praises to the Man of the People, and to hand him to posterity as one in whom virtue, talents and patriotism shine with distinguished lustre. Such is the vanity and such the folly of this selfstyled organ of the public will.
