How New Airport Gets Into Its Daily Routine
Many Pupils Enrolled In the New Flying School: Other Activities
With the tumult and the shouting of its opening now in the past, Elizabeth City's new airport got down to its work-a-day operation this week, and with most gratifying results, according to A. C. Stratton, the operator. A number of students have enrolled and are already taking flying instruction daily at the airport on the Weeksville road, among them being William Hythe Morris, Jimmie Seymour and Carlisle Horner of Elizabeth City, William Duval and Ruy Davis of Manteo, Skeets Barclay of Newport News and Jimmie Ridwell of Norfolk.
An instructor will fly to Dare county next week and give lessons to several beginners there. Mr. Stratton says that it his intention to start enrollment for a flying club and as soon as there are a sufficient number of men enrolled, and enough hours per week guaranteed to justify the course, he will purchase a plane to be devoted entirely to their use.
Commercial photography also had its start at the airport this week when Wilson Sanders was flown over the section for the purpose of taking pictures for use by the Elizabeth City Iron Works for advertising purposes.
A special feature at the airport Sunday afternoon will be two parachute jumps, one by the same performer as at the opening last Sunday, and the other by Jimmie Horning, one-legged parachute jumper, who will come here to make a delayed-opening jump.
