Full Text
Extract of a letter from a gentleman in Albany, to his friend in New York, dated 14th inst.
"A most disgraceful scene took place here last evening. About 11 o'clock I was alarmed by the cry of fire; getting up I found that it was occasioned by an effigy of Mr. Jackson, the British minister, being burnt before the door of Mr. Gregory's tavern, where Mr. Jackson put up. One or two of the rioters were taken and carried to jail.—I am sorry to find that Mr. Gregory got considerably hurt in the affray—he was knocked down by one of the scoundrels. The thing will undergo an examination to-day. It is really a disgrace to our city."
