Ben doin' a lot of thinkin' about what we could write fer a editorial. this here issue, 'n it wuz beginnin' to look like we wuz gonna have to omit it; then along cum a idea while we wuz watchin' the birds eatin' bread crums thet hed ben throwed out fer them. They wuz quite a few sparrows 'n starlin's a eatin' in a group 'n they seemed to be gittin' along jes fine. Well sir. off to the side a bit they wuz a cupple little pieces 'n these two particular starlin's saw them at the same time.

Both made a bee line fer them, one took the littlest piece'n the other started on the big one. When the small piece wuz finished the starlin' cum over to where his feathered brother wuz catin' on the bigger piece, 'n thet's where all the ruckus started. First, the peepin' wuz kinda polite-like, then. it b'come more an-gry.

Well sir, one, chirp led to another 'n the fust thing vou know them two birds started fightin'. They completely fer-got to watch the bread, they wuz jes' interested thet neither should share it with the other.

By George, while they wuz a-fightin' along cum this here sparrow 'n he ups'n eats the bread.

I s'pose thet story could end there with the moral thet greed doesn't pay; but to us they be a might more to them than jes' thet. The whole world right now is up to its neck in trubble becuz of greed, not only individuals but whole blamed na- tions is gettin' greedier then what's good fer 'em. Wars is bein' fought cus of it. 'N jes' like with the birds, the countries what is fightin' is payn' a whole lot ot attenton to the war 'n not enough to what they dropped 'n order to fight. Howsome- ever, they be other countries what is been settin' on the side lines watchin'. thet is gonna up'n grab things, jes like the spar- row done. Iotta folks claim thet this here United States wuz caught sleepin' in '41, well sir, it's beginnin' to look like now, they be awake but they be so durn buzy fightin' thet they ain't got time to pay attention to the things they is fightin' for.

Shore would be a mess ef'n they wuz to suddenly find thet all them there demo- cratic principles hed ben took'n they wuz no way a gittin' them back. Shore would be disappointin' ez all get-out too. Time to start lookin' at what's goin' on, on this side of the ocean.-The Monthly Record.
