WOMAN HURLS BABY FROM ROOF, THEN DIVES HERSELF
NEW YORK, Nov. 9. (UP)—Mrs. Margaret Begge, 42, threw her five-months-old daughter, Margaret from the roof of a seven-story building early today, then jumped herself. Police found her body in the street, the baby's on the roof of a parked automobile.
The tragedy occurred in one of the most crowded tenement districts of New York's lower East Side. The family is extremely poor.
Mrs. Begge awoke before dawn. Quietly, so as not to disturb her sleeping husband, she picked up Baby Margaret sleeping in the same room, and made her way through the dank, dark corridors of the tenement, up the creaking steps to the roof.
Her husband, Michael, told police that of late she had complained of a strange buzzing noise in her head. She had told him many times that it sounded at first like the ticking of a clock, and then it would become an "awful buzz."
