THANKSGIVING DAY

Thanksgiving Day is one of our most cherished Traditions, one which is deep in the hearts of the American people. We shall ever be grateful to the indomitable spirit of the Pilgrims, for they handed down to us a great Heritage and a great Spirit. When the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock in 1620, they battled against adverse circumstances, both in America and in the land from whence they came. They battled against tyranny and dictatorship in their Father-land and they suffered hardships and privations in America, the land they dreamed of for adventure. This suffering that the Pilgrims went through with in America was the basis foundation upon which America was founded.

America was founded upon the principles of Freedom; the freedom to worship God according to the dictates of one's own conscience; the freedom to work at whatever job one is capable of; the freedom of speech and the freedom of the Press.

History records that the Pilgrims suffered untold misery during their flight from England, they certainly suffered the same here in America during the cold wintry months, but they went to work here on the fertile lands of America to produce food and other necessities of life for their families. The Pilgrims produced an overwhelming crop that year. After they had harvested their crops, they gave thanks to God for the many blessings, the great Spirit had bestowed upon them.

This was the beginning of Thanksgiving Day in America. This Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1948 the American people will do well to revive the spirit of the Pilgrims who landed at Plymouth Rock, for we too have produced a bumper crop this year. Let us give thanks to our Deity for the blessings he has bestowed upon the American people. The Pilgrims primary aim for coming to America was to find a land or a country where they could worship God according to their own beliefs. When they had gathered their bountiful crops, they all participated in church service and gave thanks to the Great God of the Universe. Certainly we, the American People will especially give thanks to our Maker on this Thanksgiving Day.
