Aurora, Minn., the Scene of It—Engine, Tender and Two Cars Dashed Headlong from a Trestle—Engineer Killed, Fireman Fatally Hurt—Stock Destroyed—The Minnesota Editors Turn up at Austin, Delayed by the Smash-Up,

AUSTIN, Minn., June 24.—The Burlington & St. Louis mixed express due in St. Paul early this morning over the Milwaukee & St. Paul road met with a frightful accident near Aurora, twenty-four miles north of here. There had been a heavy storm during the night and the train left here at 1:40 this morning, reaching the fatal spot a little after 3. The track was under water and a trestle work gave way, precipitating engine, tender and two cars into the water. Fuller Musser, the engineer, went down with his engine and a car of hogs and a car of cattle were piled on top of the engine. The hogs were all drowned and the cattle were killed, drowned or maimed. A large wrecking force has been at work all day, but at 11 o'clock to-night word comes that the engineer's body has not been recovered. He resided in Austin, and leaves a wife and three young children. The fireman jumped from the train and was fatally injured. The passengers have not yet been transferred around the wreck and all trains for St. Paul have been stopped at Austin to-night, but will go on in the morning and transfer. Washouts on the Flying Dutchman route caused the Minnesota editorial excursion party, returning from St. Louis, to come up this way from McGregor. The party has a special car, and will remain on the track at Austin to-night, expecting to reach St. Paul some time to-morrow. Just when cannot now be predicted. The party are all well, and are making an evening moonlight visit about the city. The Cedar river is on the rampage, having risen eight feet since 5 o'clock. It is a roaring torrent.
