"A singular double wedding came off on Twelfth Night in this city. An officer of the Union army was wounded and made prisoner by the rebels, a year or two since, and received into the house of a Confederate officer. His sister, young and beautiful, followed him to the South and nursed and cared for him. The Confederate fell violently in love with her, and on the recovery of her brother connived at their escape to the North. At Nashville, the Union officer rescued an aged Southern gentleman from the clutches of a mob. Arriving at New York, it was not long before they were followed by the rebel officer, whom love had restored to his allegiance to his country. Next it was discovered that the latter's sister was in the North, and she was brought to New York by her brother. The Union officer became attached to the Southern rose, and the result was the double wedding. Curiously enough there turned up on the night of the wedding the old gentleman rescued at Nashville, who proved the father of the Southern officer, and another wedding is on the tapis between him and the widowed mother of the Union officer. Verily, 'truth is stranger than fiction.'"
