PORTLAND, SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 1804.
Portland Post-Office once more—it is with reluctance we degrade any portion of our column by a further mention of the egregious state of our post-office in its present degraded and deranged situation. We think it therefore forbear giving any further comments at present on this branch of the department, and leave our new deputy postmaster to abide by the impression his own acts may make on the public. But,
The Post-office concerns generally, have now become important to the community at large, as well as to ourselves. We have long labored under disadvantages which now must be made a duty.—The means of public information cannot be thus interrupted. There is yet spirit in the community to correct the procedure; and we know it will be done. We have now finished with the postmaster and his friends; but we have been at some pains to investigate the operations of the establishment, under the present regime of affairs in other parts of the district; and have immediately proceeded to lay before the public such facts as have convinced every candid mind of the tyrannical and overbearing spirit of those who have been put into office by political fraud and intrigue.
