Buffalo, Monday, Aug. 16, 1852.
A man named Joseph Hartman, who keeps a grocery on East Genesee-st., was supposed to have a large amount of money in his house. About 3 o'clock this morning, three men broke into the house and murdered Hartman in his sleep, by striking him across the head with the iron shutter-bar. His wife awoke, and was instantly stabbed by the villains in two or three places, and both of her arms were broken by blows from the iron bar. Hartman is supposed to have died immediately. His wife was found by the neighbors this morning, in a fainting condition from loss of blood. She is still alive, but her recovery is despaired of. She states that the murderers were negroes, or disguised as such. They got no booty, and have not yet been arrested.
