Full Text

AN EXTINGUISHER.

Expert in all notorious ways
Of courting public exaltation;
Except he's forced he never pays.
And gets his tradesman's execration
Most by cheating all he can,
Addicted to exacerbation,
Eccentric to each honest man,
Obnoxious to an explanation;
Extremely anxious to receive
The praises of exaggeration,
Exceedingly averse to give
The poor man's examination;
Opposed to universal hate
And threatened with extermination
Extortion makes the knave complete,
Callous to every exhortation,
Extravagant with others' bread,
He revels in exhilaration
Spending what the public paid
For sufferers' extrication.
Attend, Benevolence! your hand,
To save the oppressed from extirpation,
Expel the X from out the land,
With public excommunication.
