A Denver Man Blown Through Window.
Denver, Aug. 19.—At 5:30 this morning there was an explosion of gasoline at the building Nos. 1729 and 1731 Welton street, and L. Rosenthal, a tailor, was blown through a window and seriously injured.
The building is a long frame structure with a brick front. The entire rear part, and the front, No. 1731, was occupied by W. T. Crean, the plumber, who is the owner of the building. The other half of the brick front, a small room about 12x18, was used by Rosenthal as a tailor shop. Rosenthal, according to his own story, rose early and was about to light his gasoline stove to prepare his breakfast, and in some way ignited the wrong part, and the explosion followed. There was said to have been five gallons of the explosive fluid in the place. The entire front is a wreck, the bricks having been blown clear out and the roof having fallen flat to the ground.
According to the stories of the neighbors, there were two explosions, the second evidently having been the large can of gasoline, which was ignited by the concussion of the gasoline in the stove. The roof of the front building was seen to lift in the air as if on a hinge, and then fall back into place, before the final collapse. A curtain hanging in the front window was blown across the street, where it was hanging this morning in the branches of a tree.
Rosenthal was blown through a side window, and landed nearly twenty-five feet from the house. He was somewhat bruised and was badly burned about the head, chest and shoulders. The burns are painful and serious.
