June Raufman Is "Homemaker Girl" At Shaw
The Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow in Shaw High School is June Raufman. Miss Raufman has received the highest score in a written examination which tested the homemaking knowledge and attitudes of senior girls in the graduating class. She will be entered in competitions to name Ohio's candidate for the title of All-American Homemaker of Tomorrow and will also be considered for the runnerup award in the state. She will receive a golden award pin designed by Trifari and the school will receive a "Betty Crocker Good and Easy Cook Book."

The national winner in the search conducted among 256,534 young women in 10,222 of the nation's public, private and parochial high schools will be named April 12th at the American Table Banquet in Philadelphia.

General Mills is the sponsor of the program designed to assist schools in building in young women a deeper appreciation and understanding of the American home and to emphasize through a sound scholarship award program the personal qualities and sense of values, necessary to successful homemaking. More than $100,000 in scholarships will be awarded.

Each state winner will receive a $1,500 scholarship and an educational trip with her school advisor to Washington, D. C., colonial Williamsburg, Va., and Philadelphia. A $500 scholarship will be awarded each runnerup girl. The school of the state winner will receive a set of the Encyclopedia Britannica.

The 50-minute written examination, designed and judged by Science Research Associates of Chicago, which was given to all participants in this national search, consisted of questions which tested the students' attitude and knowledge in the major areas of homemaking.

Mrs. Barbara Bowling, foods instructor at Shaw High, was June's Home Economics teacher and local contest sponsor.
