PHILADELPHIA, April 17. Friday last arrived in this River, a Sloop in 12 Days from the Havanna; which had been there with a Flag of Truce from Jamaica. She has brought in here about 25 English Prisoners, some of which are Officers, which were taken by a Spanish Man of War Snow; near S. Carolina, on the 31st of January, in a Store Ship bound from England to Annapolis Royal, but blown off the Northern Coast. The same Snow took the next Day Capt. Doughty, in the Ship Potillion, bound from Providence to Charlestown, who is one of the Prisoners brought in here, as also Capt. Curling of the Store Ship. There were 100 Recruits on Board the Store Ship, about 50 of which are sent to Jamaica, some of the Remainder died, and a few entered into the Spanish Service. The great Privateer Golconda, Capt. Arraucouchoa, was careening, and intended for this Coast in about 3 Weeks, with two Consorts, a Sloop and Brigantine or Snow of 14 Guns each. The Governor of the Havanna detains some Men belonging to Capt. Dennis of Rhode-Island, on Account of some free Spanish Molattoes which Dennis had taken and sold. The same Day arrived here a Spanish Privateer Sloop sent in by the Trembleur, Capt. Bowne, which he took in Consort with the Sloop Bumper, Capt. Beefly of Montserrat, on the 20th of Feb. near Aruba, bound from St. Domingo to Curacoa, having on board 4751 Pieces of 8, a Piece of Bullion Silver of 7 Pounds and a half Weight, 1090 Hides, 8 Bales of Tobacco, and sundry other Goods. That on the 27th of February they took a large Schooner, bound from Martinico to Bordeaux, having on Board about 200 Hhds. of Sugar, and 40 Casks of Coffee, &c. which Schooner the above Sloop parted with 5 Days before they got into our Capes. They also took a small Schooner having on Board 240 Pieces of 8, and sold the Schooner for 60 Pieces of 8 at Curacoa; and their Barge took 9 fine Negroes.
