Full Text

A Play upon the words Fire, Ice, Snow.

Lately when suffering by a fire,
Julia's kind aid I did desire;
With snow and ice the haughty dame
Attempted to destroy the flame.
What colder is than ice and snow?
Yet these my fire did higher blow;
For ice and snow, from Julia sent,
Gave to my fires a stronger vent.
Ah me! where shall I seek for rest?
For cold but more inflames my breast!
Ah! Julia, neither ice nor snow
Can quench my fires which fiercer grow
But come with equal fires, no doubt
One fire will drive the other out.
