Monday was the one hundred and thirty-second anniversary of the adoption of the stars and stripes as the flag of the United States, and the occasion was fittingly celebrated in all the public schools and with patriotic exercises in the Detroit opera house, Monday afternoon, under the auspices of the Michigan Society of Daughters of Founders and Patriots of America. It was this organization that brought about the observance of Flag day in Detroit. The Rev. John H. Boyd, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, presided. Gen. Jacob Smith, of Ann Arbor, delivered an address on "Our Flag in Foreign Parts," and Judge Alfred J. Murphy, spoke on "Flag Legislation."

Appropriate vocal numbers were rendered by Miss Gabriel Fuerth and a chorus from the Normal training school. The musical program was under the direction of Thomas Chilvers.
