Full Text

All Present.—Ald. Clarke presented an ordinance reducing the pay of the Night Watch to $1.25 per day. Referred.

Ald. Clarke presented a resolution making it the duty of the Clerk to record all the ordinances, and instructing him to have those recorded that have been passed heretofore, which have not been recorded.

Proceeded to the election of Collector of Taxes.

Ald. Wallace presented a petition from John L. Kelley, to collect the taxes for $575.

Ald. Clarke presented one from N. Herrick offering to collect them for $500.

The Mayor read a proposition presented by Orrison Hardy to collect them for $525.

A. P. Gilson presented a proposition to collect them for $600.

The balloting stood thus:

First Ballot.—John L. Kelley had 1; O. Hardy, 3; N. Herrick, 4.

Second Ballot,—Same as first.

Third Ballot.—

Fourth Ballot.—Kelley, 1; G. Riddle, 1; O. Hardy, 2; Herrick, 4.

Fifth Ballot.—Hardy, 3; Herrick, 5, and was elected.

Ald. Farmer, chairman of Committee of nominations, reported the following for night Watch and Police:

Night Watch.—Henry Bennett, U. H. Foss, Elias B. Pike, E. P. Whidden.

Police Officers.—O. W. Colby, H. B. Moulton, Stephen Palmer, Nathan B. Taplin, H. T. Mowatt, H. H. Fuller, E. G. Woodman, E. G. W. Bartlett, David Crowell, S. L. Quimby, James Wallace, S. G. Langley, Horace Pattee, Gilbert G. Gordon, A. G. Fairbanks, Sylvester Pressy, N. B. Batchelder, Reuben S. Harlow, Wm. Wheeler, Francis Monroe.

The report was accepted and the men designated above appointed.

Ald. Clarke introduced a resolution requesting the Mayor to obtain the written opinion of the City Solicitor as to when the new Superintendent of streets in District No. 2, should commence his duties.

The City and assistant Marshal, and the Night Watch were appointed Police officers.

Adjourned to a week from Tuesday.
