Holman Prepares a Resolution on Hawaiian Affairs.

DON'T WANT MONARCHY RESTORED
Thinks Affairs Should Rest Where They Are and Let the People Establish a Republican Government
The House Battling With the Tariff Bill- The Crops of 1893

WASHINGTON, Jan. 11.-Mr. Holman of Indiana has prepared a resolution declaring while the action of Stevens in relation to Hawaii was unauthorized and contrary to our practices in dealing with independent and foreign governments, yet it is contrary to the spirit of our institutions and to the public sentiment of congress that any effort be made to maintain or re-establish monarchy in any form. That it is the sense of congress that there should be no interference to secure a reestablishment of monarchy in Hawaii. The resolution finally declared that it should be the duty of this government, however, not to permit any foreign interference with Hawaiian islands and when a permanent form of Republican government is established on those islands steps should be taken to secure cordial relations between the governments.

No Further Steps Taken
Washington, Jan. 11. -Mr. Gresham says there will be no further steps taken by the executive branch of the government to restore Queen Liliuokalani. The whole affair will be in the hands of congress. All further communications will be transmitted to congress.
