Full Text
From the New-Hampshire Intelligencer.
Among the most singular objections that we have seen made to General Jackson's claims to the Presidency is that he has no son. This may be a serious objection to those who wish to perpetuate the Adams dynasty, and establish a hereditary succession to the Presidential Chair. The friends of the administration are becoming very bold, and we need not be surprised if some of them begin to advocate a hereditary monarchy. They have already got so far as to contend that "the President can do no wrong," and that no man is fit for a President that "has no son." John Adams had sons, and John Quincy Adams has sons, but we are satisfied with such old fashioned, and now ill-reputed Presidents as Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe, who had no sons, and of their good old democratic principles, which are fast becoming obsolete. But times have changed, and "Lethe's stream" must flow over them and their principles.
