President Will Open Show

Every city, town, hamlet and orchard district in the Inland Empire and throughout the northwest having entries at the second National apple show will be connected by telegraph or telephone with Spokane to receive President Taft's message at the formal opening of the apple exposition at 10 o'clock (Pacific time) the morning of November 15. President Taft will press an electric button in the White House, his message being carried by direct wire from Washington, D. C., to the apple show headquarters, and thence flashed to all points in the northwest.

The arrival of the president's felicitations will be the signal for the ringing of fire gongs and church and school bells and the blowing of whistles in the various manufacturing establishments and on the railroads, the din to continue for five minutes. Three thousand members of the 150,000 Club of Spokane under the direction of Harry J. Neeley, president, and Arthur W. Jones, Secretary, will join the noise makers with steam and compressed air whistling apparatus, gongs and other equipment, also participating in the illuminated parade that night. The Booster Club of the South central high school and 15,000 pupils at the grade schools at Spokane will also have a recess for 10 minutes to join in the demonstration.
