Full Text

A Tramp's Last Ride. - It was reported at the railroad office in this city to-day that a man named Jones had been picked up near the railroad track, about three miles north of Lynchburg, in a badly mangled condition, (although he was still living,) and taken back to that city for treatment. Jones, who was trying to steal a ride to Richmond, after being discovered and ordered off the north bound freight train over the Virginia Midland railway by Conductor Gathright at Franklin Station and Lynchburg, boarded the train again at Chatham, and must have fallen off soon after the cars got under headway, as he was found a short distance from that station by the hands on the south bound train. The doctor at Lynchburg, after examining the man, stated that his injuries were necessarily fatal.
