He suffered injuries in the invasion of Sicily and is awaiting the award of the Purple Heart for having risked his life to carry a wounded comrade out of danger. He arrived at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Morrow. in Holtville this week.
Morrow served as an armed guard on a merchant marine ship. He was the only one of 24 armed guards on such a boat who survived an enemy attack. He was one of seven men who were rescued by the English after floating 72 hours in their lifebelts after their boat was torpedoed and went down off Crete.
While on board a train of ships in the Pacific, the ships ahead and behind the one on which Morrow was serving were destroyed by a Japanese wolf pack. A Japanese submarine surfaced, Morrow said. and the Americans destroyed it.
During his time with the navy, Morrow served in four major battles.
