The Council Committee on Fire Department met last evening and devoted a large portion of the time of the session to a consideration of the list of buildings which the ordinance of the city provides shall be equipped with fire escapes. In compliance with orders from the Committee, made some time ago, the Chief submitted a very long list of buildings which in his opinion should be so equipped and this list was revised by the Committee, and notices duly signed by the Chief and Mayor, will be sent out.

The list, as revised, stands about as follows:

Vance Shoe Co., Herbert Candy Factory, News Pub. Co., Intelligencer, Bremer & Mabis, Wheeling Drug Co., Register, Rogers's Block, McCov Shoe Co., Hunter's Spice Mill, Handian's Hall, Egerter Building, Red Letter Co., St. Charles Hotel, P. Welty, A. Bills to the amount of $529.54 were audited and recommended for payment.

Ten bids were opened for the new roof for the Atlantic engine house and for the new floor in the Niagara, but as there had been no specifications, the bidders were a good deal at variance. As a result of a long discussion, all the bids were rejected, and new bids will be advertised for according to specifications, to be at the City Clerk's office, and bids will close at noon next Monday. The Committee will meet again that evening.

Late in the evening the Committee took up the annual repairs to the various engine houses, and followed that by a discussion of the proposition to limit purchases by the Chief.

The Committee on Health met and recommended for payment bills to the amount of $113.35. The Committee will meet again this evening before the session of Council, to receive a proposition from R. K. Giffen for the ashes from the city crematory.

The Committee on Accounts examined the books of the Clerk and Receiver, and recommended bills aggregating $47.52.
