WILL LIKELY GO TO KANSAS CITY—WATERWORKS DEPARTMENT GETS THE "RUSH BUG."
And still nothing definite has been done relative to the purchasing of the new pump for the city waterworks department. The investigation committee, consisting of Commissioners Wheatley and Smiley and Mayor Martin returned yesterday from an inspection of a pump at Oklahoma City which one of the bidders cited as an example of the machine which he is trying to sell the city. No action was taken upon the return of the commissioners and it is noised around the city hall that the commission will make a trip to Kansas City relative to the pump question. They consider the purchase of a pump of vital importance and are doing the buying cautiously.
In all lines of the work, the waterworks department is going ahead as rapidly as possible. The department is anticipating a heavy run of business this summer and is getting things in shape.
The report of the census of Tulsa as given yesterday morning is said to have made the waterworks men take another hitch in their belts and prepare for anything. Supplying a city of 26,438 isn't like pumping water to a third that many as was the case four or five years ago. According to Superintendent Sands, the waterworks department has the "rush bug" just like everything else connected with Tulsa.
